About Us
A little about Clear Steps
Clear Steps SEND CIC was created to provide families with accessible SEND information, practical guidance and a place to feel heard.
Understanding what help is available, knowing which questions to ask and finding a way forward can take time and energy. We bring together lived experience and professional knowledge to help families make sense of their options.
We work with parents and carers, and collaborate with professionals and organisations to strengthen understanding of SEND and neurodivergence.
SEE · UNDERSTAND · SUPPORT is at the heart of what we do.
Meet Kate and Gemma
Kate Jenner — Co-founder and Director
Kate has experience across education, the NHS, the National Autistic Society and a local authority commissioned project supporting families of neurodivergent children and young people.
She has facilitated Barnardo's Cygnet programmes and brings her own lived experience of neurodivergence and navigating the SEND system as a parent.
Kate has completed IPSEA SEN Law Levels 1, 2 and 3, undertaken Sensory Needs Practitioner training and is currently studying Neurodiversity & Inclusion (Train the Trainer).
She is passionate about helping families understand their options and making complicated information easier to navigate.
Gemma Randall — Co-founder, Director and Designated Safeguarding Lead
Gemma's background includes work in education provision and local authority commissioned community family support. She has trained as a Sensory Needs Practitioner and has experience as a lead trainer and facilitator of Barnardo's Cygnet programmes.
Gemma also brings lived experience of navigating SEND as a parent, alongside delivering workshops and supporting families. She is passionate about helping people feel understood and finding practical approaches that reflect individual needs.
And yes, keeping Kate organised is also part of her skill set!

Our approach
What people see on the surface doesn't always tell the whole story. A child may appear to be coping in one environment but find another much more difficult. Behaviour may communicate distress, an unmet need or an unrecognised barrier.
We aim to help families and professionals look beyond assumptions, understand individual experiences and find practical support. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all answers.
Our commitment
Clear Steps is a Community Interest Company. We are committed to treating families with respect, protecting personal information and maintaining safeguarding arrangements. Both directors have undergone DBS checks and Gemma is our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
